 True Joy

Our suffering is rooted in afflictions, which arise from our attachment to the self and to all phenomena.

We cling to the belief that there is a real and enduring self, and we believe that all phenomena truly exist.

Therefore, suffering comes not from external conditions, but from the attachments within our minds.

Under the same circumstances, some suffer while others remain at ease.

Thus, both suffering and joy ultimately depend on the mind.

However, letting go of these attachments through our own efforts is not easy.

So Pure Land teaching offers a supreme path: trust in Amitabha’s deliverance and recite his name single-mindedly.

Amitabha’s name is the crystallization of his boundless merit and virtue.

The Amitabha Sutra says the Land of Ultimate Bliss is so named not just for its wondrous adornments, but because beings there are free from birth and death, possessing the true joy of Nirvana.
